Where to Stay in Jaco: Our Favorite Hotels and How to Get There

If you’re planning a trip to Costa Rica, chances are Jaco Beach is on your radar. Just 1.5 to 2 hours from San José International Airport (SJO), Jaco is one of the country’s most popular destinations for surfing, nightlife, and easy access to all sorts of day tours and a few national parks.

Getting there is simple too. The easiest way is with a private transfer from SJO Airport to Jaco, so you can skip the stress of renting a car or figuring out public buses.

Choosing the right hotel is a big part of the overall experience, so we’ve put together a list of our favorite places to help you with the first question: where to stay in Jaco?

Getting to Jaco

Jacó is a beach town right on the 34 national road, some 90kms (or 56 miles) from SJO airport.

The recommended route is the 27th national route, it’s the shortest and fastest but consider that it has several toll booths which you can pay cash or with a credit card.

Once you’ve chosen where to stay in Jaco, you basically have three options to get there:

  1. Public bus: the cheapest but the most inconvenient, specially from the airport as you’d have to first go to downtown San José to catch the bus at the terminal. Wouldn’t recommend it with luggage unless your on a super tight budget.
  2. Car rental: it gives you more freedom, but obviously you’d have to do the driving. Consider if you really want to drive a couple of hours right after your flight.
  3. Private transfer: we’ll pick you up right at the airport and take you directly to your hotel, so you can have some rest on the way there and start your vacation stress-free. Plus, you get to request all the photo or rest room stops that you wish.
